[ 「釜神展」開催のお知らせ｜Exhibition Announcement: Kamagami – Traditional Culture of the Former Date Domain ]

令和8年の幕開けを飾る最初の展示として、外苑 Sando Terrace Galleryでは「釜神展」を開催いたします。
「釜神（かまがみ）」は、宮城県から岩手県南部にかけての旧伊達藩領内に根付く独自の信仰・文化です。荒々しくもどこか愛嬌のある表情が特徴の木彫り面は、古くより家の中心である大黒柱や竈（かまど）の近くに祀られ、「家運隆盛」や「火伏せ（火難除け）」の守護神として大切にされてきました。
本展では、釜神木彫りの会の皆様による、伝統を継承した個性豊かな作品を一堂に展示いたします。家々を守り続けてきた「釜神様」の力強い造形美をぜひ間近でご覧ください。一部販売可能な作品もございます。

｜We are pleased to announce the first exhibition of 2026 at the Sando Terrace Gallery: "The Kamagami Exhibition."
"Kamagami" refers to a unique folk belief and cultural tradition found within the former Date Domain (extending from Miyagi to southern Iwate Prefecture). These distinctive hand-carved wooden masks are traditionally enshrined on the house's main pillar or near the hearth (kamado). They have long been revered as guardian deities, prayed to for "family prosperity" and "protection against fire."
This exhibition features a diverse collection of powerful works created by the "Kamagami Woodcarving Association," who continue to preserve this ancient craft. We invite you to experience the striking beauty and spiritual presence of these masks that have watched over Japanese households for generations.Some works are available for sale.
