Shorinji Zazen,
In the Chinese study of Zen Buddhism (Zenshu), it is not just a enlightenment or mind calming meditation practice, it is a full body practice. We as people do not just live in this world purely in Spirit. We have three levels of existence, mind, body and spirit. In the practice of Chinese Zen-Shu we seek to bring and to keep the three levels of our life, existence in harmony. We sit Zazen to calm and refresh the mind, we do motion Zen to keep the body healthy, we Chant Amida Buddha to uplift, refresh and connect to Buddha spirit of the Pureland.
The combined practice of ZaZen and Jodo-shu Buddhism, puts us on the path to the Pureland in this life and the next.
Komyoji temple will be offering a monthly class on Shorinji Zazen. It will consist of the following class outline :
Qi gong ( Kikaou ): is an ancient Chinese method of breathing drills to help one's health, spirit and internal energy. The drills can be done in a group or solo. The drills can be done at any time or place it is convenient, There is no special equipment needed or large amount of space.
Self Acupressure; applying pressure to Chinese Medical points of the body to strengthen the Immune system and to increase Ki for health.
Junen/Zazen: Sitting meditation (1 of 2) 15 minutes
Walking Zen: using Tai Chi walking. A drill from the Chinese Budo art of Tai Chi Chuan. To help your balance, stretching the legs after sitting Zazen, circulate your Ki.
